April is Arab American Heritage Month, and it’s a great time to honor, explore, and celebrate the rich culture, traditions, and contributions of Arab Americans. As moms, we’re always looking for meaningful ways to teach our kids about the beautiful diversity in our world—and this month is a perfect opportunity to do just that!

Here are a few easy and engaging ways to celebrate Arab American Heritage Month as a family:
Storytime is one of the best ways to introduce kids to new cultures. Head to your local library or bookstore and look for these beautiful stories:
“Lailah’s Lunchbox” by Reem Faruqi
“The Arabic Quilt” by Aya Khalil
“Golden Domes and Silver Lanterns” by Hena Khan
“Other Words for Home” by Jasmine Warga
“The Girl Who Lost Her Shadow” by Emily Ilett
“A Woman Is No Man” by Etaf Rum
“We Hunt the Flame” by Hafsah Faizal
“The Arsonists’ City” by Hala Alyan
Reading books by Arab authors helps spark important conversations while giving our kids a window into the experiences of others.
Try geometric patterns or mosaic-inspired art with your little ones. Print out coloring pages inspired by Arabic tiles or let them explore with shapes and bold colors.
Explore the flavors of Arab cuisine! Cook a simple dish like hummus and pita, lentil soup, or even try a local restaurant that serves Lebanese, Palestinian, Egyptian, or Syrian food.
Play Arabic music at home or watch short educational videos on YouTube that explore Arab culture, holidays like Eid, and daily life in countries across the Arab world.
Keep the conversation going. Talk to your kids about the importance of respecting all cultures, learning from others, and standing up against stereotypes. These little conversations help raise kind, inclusive, and aware kids.
Celebrating Arab American Heritage Month doesn’t have to be complicated. With just a few thoughtful activities, we can teach our kids to appreciate the beauty and contributions of the Arab community—right from home.
Let’s raise the next generation to celebrate everyone’s story. 💛
