Thinking about homeschooling your kid? It can be intimidating as you think about possibly pulling your kid from brick and mortar schooling. Many teachers are amazing and will put their lives on the line for your child. But, that doesn't stop the worry as you drop your kid off at school not knowing if it'll be the last time you see them. School shootings have become standard these days. It is absolutely heartbreaking and not normal at all. Homeschool is an option for some families. And while it may seem like uncertain waters, it's a great way to have control over your children's education and safety.
Homeschooling can be a good option for some families, but whether or not it is the right choice for your family depends on your unique circumstances and goals. Some potential reasons to consider homeschooling your child could include:
Customized Education: Homeschooling allows you to tailor your child's education to their individual needs, strengths, and interests. You can create a personalized curriculum that meets your child's specific learning style and pace, which may lead to greater academic success and enjoyment.
Flexible Schedule: Homeschooling offers the flexibility to set your own schedule, which can be helpful if you have other commitments, such as work or travel. It also allows you to structure your child's day in a way that works best for them.
More Control: Homeschooling gives you more control over what your child learns and how they learn it. You can choose the curriculum, teaching materials, and teaching methods that align with your values and beliefs.
More Time with Your Child: Homeschooling allows you to spend more time with your child, which can strengthen your bond and provide more opportunities for shared experiences.
Safe and Comfortable Environment: Homeschooling can provide a safe and comfortable environment for your child to learn, free from the distractions and negative influences that can sometimes be present in traditional schools.
However, homeschooling also has some potential drawbacks to consider, such as the need for a strong commitment of time and effort from parents, the potential for social isolation for children, and the potential for limited opportunities for extracurricular activities or specialized instruction. It is important to carefully weigh the pros and cons and consider your child's unique needs and circumstances before making a decision about homeschooling.
Socialization is a big factor for many potential homeschoolers. We decided to try cyber school through Reach Cyber Charter School which offers a flexible curriculum, teacher support, and tons of local events and field trips.
