There’s something magical about the first day of fall - the air feels a little crisper, the leaves start to change, and suddenly we’re ready for all the cozy vibes. As moms, it’s the perfect chance to create simple, memory-filled traditions with our kids. Here are a few easy ways to celebrate the first day of fall together:

Pull out the construction paper and glue sticks! Try making leaf rubbings, pinecone animals, or paper pumpkins. These quick crafts are fun for kids of all ages and double as seasonal decorations for your home.

Snuggle up with classics like Leaf Man by Lois Ehlert, We’re Going on a Leaf Hunt by Steve Metzger, or Goodbye Summer, Hello Autumn by Kenard Pak. Reading seasonal books helps kids connect with the changes happening outside.
Fill your kitchen with the smells of fall. Bake pumpkin bread, apple muffins, or sugar cookies shaped like leaves. If you’re short on time, even a box mix feels special when you add cinnamon or nutmeg. Checkout this fun Fall leaf cookies recipe by Nurture Store!
Start the season in style with festive fall shirts! Whether it’s pumpkins, apples, or “mama + mini” matching tees, getting dressed up makes the day feel extra fun. (Check out my favorite fall shirts linked below!)
✨ Bonus Idea: Take a short walk as a family to spot the first signs of autumn - changing leaves, acorns, or that fresh, crisp air.
The first day of fall doesn’t have to be fancy. It’s about slowing down, soaking in the season, and creating those little traditions your kids will always remember.
