I can't believe we're already here!
The last day of school is coming up, and somehow my little girls aren't so little anymore. One is heading into middle school, and my oldest will be an 8th grader! Where does time go?
As a mom, I've learned that childhood moves fast.
One way to slow down time (in my mind) is by making the last day of school feel a little extra special.
Not because it has to be Pinterest-perfect.
Not because I want to spend a lot of money. Not in this economy!
But because these little moments become memories.
When my girls wake up on their last day of school, they're going to be greeted with a mini celebration.
Nothing over the top.
I'm decorating our living room with:
Just enough to make them smile and feel celebrated.
Because finishing a school year is a big deal.
I'm also putting together a simple summer basket for each of my girls.
I'm keeping it budget-friendly, but thoughtful.
Inside I'm including:
📚 A workbook for the grade they're entering next year
📖 A new book to read
👙 A swimsuit
🕶️ Summer essentials like sunglasses, goggles, sunscreen, and chapstick
The goal isn't to spend a lot, just to kick off summer with a little excitement.
One thing I'm especially excited about is their shirts.
I created matching "Peace Out" shirts with their grades on them.
They're fun, colorful, and perfect for photos. Because let's be honest - half the reason moms do any of this is for the pictures we'll look back on years from now. And my now teenager isn't going to be happy about the shirts! ha!
One thing my girls are really excited about this year is Dorney Park.
We purchased season passes and plan to visit several times this summer before and after camp.
I love having something on the calendar that gives us experiences to look forward to together.
Sometimes the anticipation is part of the fun.
Years from now, my daughters probably won't remember the exact workbook that was in their basket.
They may not remember the balloons.
They might not even remember the banner.
But they'll remember how they felt.
Celebrated.
Loved.
Excited for what was next.
That's what I'm learning motherhood is really about.
Not creating perfect moments.
Creating meaningful ones.
And sometimes that starts with a few balloons, a summer basket, and saying:
"I'm proud of you."
