I was recently invited to see Horsegirl & Cowdaddy at The Wilma Theater, so I invited my aunt and turned it into a little girls' night out in Center City.
Horsegirl & Cowdaddy is a new play by DJ Hills about Horsegirl, a woman living with her father, Cowdaddy, in rural Pennsylvania. When she falls in love with a new-to-town teacher, her life begins to change in some pretty unexpected ways. The Wilma describes it as a story about family, intimacy and figuring out what a happy life looks like for yourself.
And whew - interesting is definitely the word I'd use. 😂
The story kept my attention, the actors were amazing and I really enjoyed how intimate the experience felt. It's one of those shows that gives you plenty to talk about afterward, which made it perfect for a girls' night.
One thing to know before you go: the show runs about 1 hour and 45 minutes with no intermission, so definitely make that bathroom stop before you find your seat. Ask me how I know!
Heads up: This one's definitely a grown-up night out! The show includes mature themes and content, so check The Wilma's content information before purchasing tickets.
Before the show, we also stopped at Good Karma Café inside the Wilma and tried the special Horsegirl cocktail inspired by the show.
It has bourbon, lemonade and pomegranate syrup and it was divine. Sweet, a little savory!
There's also a Cowdaddy cocktail made with tequila, lime juice and sparkling water.
If you want something different from the usual dinner-and-drinks girls' night, a night at the theater is such a fun switch-up.
Horsegirl & Cowdaddy runs at The Wilma Theater through October 4, so there's still time to catch it. The theater is right at Broad & Spruce in Center City, which also makes it easy to add dinner or drinks before or after the show.
I enjoyed getting dressed, leaving the kids at home for a few hours and spending the evening with my aunt. Sometimes that's all we need. 😂
