The holiday season is here, and with it comes the perfect opportunity to make special memories with your family. As millennial moms, we know that sometimes, the most magical moments come from the simplest activities. Here are some easy and free ways to create lasting memories with your loved ones—without breaking the bank. And if you’re looking for an extra fun activity, our new Color Me Holiday Shirt for kids is the perfect way to keep them entertained and creative all season long!
Bundle up, grab some hot cocoa, and take a stroll around your neighborhood or nearby downtown area to enjoy the holiday lights and decorations. Many communities go all out, turning streets into twinkling wonderlands that both kids and adults can enjoy. It’s a fun, free way to get everyone in the holiday spirit!
Snuggle up on the couch with blankets, popcorn, and some favorite holiday movies. Whether you’re into classics like A Charlie Brown Christmas or newer hits like The Grinch, holiday movie nights are a cozy way to spend quality time together. You could even make it a weekly tradition throughout December, watching a different movie each time.
Pull out those markers, crayons, and paper, and let your kids’ creativity run wild! From homemade holiday cards to DIY ornaments, crafting is a great way to spend time together. Our Color Me Holiday Shirt is also a fantastic option—kids can color it in, wash it, and start all over again. It’s an activity and keepsake rolled into one!
You don’t need fancy ingredients to whip up a batch of holiday cookies or cupcakes. Get the whole family involved, from mixing the batter to decorating with sprinkles. Once everything is baked, set aside a few treats for yourselves and make small goodie bags to share with neighbors or friends. It’s a fun way to spread a little joy!
Pull out your favorite board games, card games, or even make up some of your own holiday-themed games. Family game nights are full of laughter and bonding, and they’re perfect for creating those simple, joyful moments that make the holidays so special.
Instead of a traditional advent calendar, try making a kindness countdown. Each day leading up to the holiday, do a small act of kindness as a family. This could be anything from writing thank-you notes to donating old toys or simply helping out a neighbor. It’s a beautiful way to teach kids the spirit of giving while creating meaningful memories.
Whether you’re musically inclined or just love to sing, a family holiday sing-along can be loads of fun. Choose your favorite holiday songs, and let everyone take turns singing their best (or silliest) rendition. You can even make up dance moves or use simple instruments like bells or tambourines to add to the fun!
Set up a small tree where you and the kids can hang little items that represent favorite memories or hopes for the future. This could include photos, small crafts, or even handwritten notes. It’s a lovely way to reflect on the year and cherish special moments together.
Write down your favorite holiday moments, wishes for the new year, or draw some family pictures and tuck them into a box. Store it away until next holiday season, and look back on it as a family tradition. Kids will love seeing how much they’ve grown and remembering fun memories from the year before.
There’s something magical about holiday stories! Choose a few favorites, gather under cozy blankets, and read aloud to each other. Whether it’s a classic holiday tale or a new winter-themed book, reading together brings the family close and helps create a peaceful, magical atmosphere.
The holidays don’t need to be expensive or complicated to be meaningful. With these easy, free ideas, you can create a season filled with laughter, joy, and love that your family will remember for years to come. And don’t forget, our Color Me Holiday Shirt makes for an extra fun and festive activity that kids will love all season long!
