Let’s be honest - sometimes it feels easier to hand the kids a tablet and take a breath. But I’ve been challenging myself to find screen-free activities that my kids actually enjoy (and don’t just roll their eyes at!).
Here are a few of our tried-and-true favorites that work for tweens, preteens, and even little siblings too - no screen time required.
There’s something calming about spreading out a 500-piece puzzle and working on it together. Add snacks and music, and it becomes a whole vibe.
DIY slime, friendship bracelets, and air-dry clay never go out of style. I keep a bin of craft supplies they can pull out whenever creativity strikes.
Whether it’s a walk around the neighborhood, a trip to the park, or bike riding at our local park - fresh air does wonders for all of us.
We’ve started our own mom & daughter book club, and it’s been a fun way to unplug and bond. (Bonus: we borrow a lot from the library or read on Kindle for just $1!)
Taco night, smoothie bowls, or even just baking boxed brownies - giving kids a say in the kitchen is a win-win. It builds confidence and kills the boredom.
I’m not anti-screens. But sprinkling in a few intentional, low-pressure activities has helped us reconnect and enjoy each other more - especially during summer.
