Apple picking can be a fun family activity, and there are plenty of kid-friendly recipes and activities you can enjoy with the apples you've picked. Here are some ideas:
Apple Pie
Making apple pie from scratch can be a great family project. You can involve your kids in peeling and slicing the apples, and they can help assemble the pie.
Apple Crisp
This is an easier alternative to apple pie. It involves fewer steps and can be a fun way to introduce kids to baking.
Apple Sauce
Homemade applesauce is a healthy and delicious option. You can let your kids help with peeling and cutting the apples, and they can even help stir the sauce as it cooks.
Caramel Apples
Dip apples into caramel sauce and decorate them with nuts, sprinkles, or chocolate chips. Kids love making and eating these.
Apple Chips
Slice apples thinly, sprinkle them with cinnamon and sugar, and bake them until they're crispy. These make for a tasty and healthy snack.
Apple Cider
If you have a juicer or access to a cider press, you can make your own apple cider. Kids can help wash and prep the apples.
Apple Bobbing
This classic fall game is always a hit with kids. Fill a large bucket with water, float some apples in it, and have the kids try to grab them using only their mouths.
Apple Picking Scavenger Hunt
Create a scavenger hunt in your backyard or at the apple orchard. Give kids a list of apple-related items to find, such as the smallest apple, the largest apple, a leaf, or a twig.
Apple Juice Popsicles
Blend apples with a bit of water and sweetener to taste, pour the mixture into popsicle molds, and freeze for homemade apple popsicles.
These activities and recipes should keep your family entertained and well-fed after a day of apple picking. Plus, they offer valuable opportunities for kids to learn about food and cooking.
