If you're looking for a unique family activity in Philadelphia, especially if your kids love musicals, history, or live performances, The Sound of America: A Ben Franklin Rock Musical is one to add to your list.
My 11-year-old daughter, Mackenzie, and I were invited to see the show after attending the kickoff celebration a few weeks ago, where we had the chance to meet some of the cast. We were excited to finally experience the full production - and it didn't disappoint!

This isn't your typical history lesson.
The show reimagines Benjamin Franklin as the frontman of a rock band, blending history with humor, live music, and storytelling in a way that feels fresh and entertaining.
With 23 original songs, a talented cast, and a live band on stage, it's a fun twist on one of Philadelphia's most famous historical figures.
One of Mackenzie's favorite parts was how interactive the show felt.
The cast didn't just stay on stage - they moved throughout the theater, making the audience feel like they were part of the performance.
The music was energetic, the performances were strong, and there were plenty of funny moments throughout the show.
She especially loved the rock concert feel and said she'd definitely recommend it to other kids who enjoy musical theater.

Â
I would recommend The Sound of America for kids 10 years old and older.
There is some mild profanity, so it's something to keep in mind if you're bringing younger children.
The performance runs approximately 2 hours, with a 15-minute intermission. We grabbed drinks from the restaurant.Â
