Juneteenth is more than just a holiday - it's a time to reflect on our history, honor the fight for freedom, and celebrate Black resilience and joy. Teaching our kids about Juneteenth helps them understand where we’ve been and encourages them to build a better future.
Whether you're joining a parade, visiting a museum, or coloring together at home, there are so many ways to make Juneteenth meaningful as a family.
Location: 7th & Arch Street
Hosted in partnership with Wawa Welcome America, this free outdoor celebration includes music, food trucks, kid-friendly activities, and more. It’s one of Philly’s biggest Juneteenth events and perfect for all ages.
Date: Sunday, June 22nd
Celebrate in West Philly with marching bands, community groups, vendors, performances, and a vibrant celebration of Black culture. It’s an unforgettable way to show your kids what joy and pride look like in action.
This Germantown Underground Railroad site hosts music, art, food, and educational activities honoring the Black freedom struggle. It’s a beautiful way to ground your celebration in local history.
Explore Philly’s Black history with this engaging guided walking tour through Old City. Learn about freedom fighters, early abolitionists, and everyday heroes who shaped our nation - right in the heart of Philly. Great for older kids and tweens.
Dates: All weekend leading up to June 19
Special tours, pop-up talks, and hands-on activities designed to help families reflect on the meaning of freedom through the lens of the American Revolution and beyond.
Take a family trip to Independence Mall and visit the powerful Civil War and Reconstruction: The Battle for Freedom and Equality exhibit. Admission is free on Juneteenth, making it both educational and budget-friendly.
