If you’re looking for a fun, low-stress holiday outing with the kids this year, the Holiday Garden Railway at Morris Arboretum needs to be on your list. It’s one of those Philly traditions that feels nostalgic, magical, and peaceful all at the same time - and the little ones love it.
The minute you walk in, you’re surrounded by sparkling lights, miniature trains, tiny villages, and beautifully decorated tracks weaving through the garden. It’s outdoors (but cozy), stroller-friendly, and just the right amount of excitement without overstimulating the kids… which, honestly, is a win for all of us.

It’s a true Philly tradition. Families come year after year because it’s just that good.
The trains are incredible. Over a quarter mile of track, tons of details, and little surprises tucked everywhere.
Kid-friendly at every level. Wide paths, great visibility for toddlers, and so many “look at this!” moments.
Perfect for memory-making photos. Think twinkling lights + bundled-up kiddos = holiday card material.

Dress warm - it’s outdoors, but you’ll be walking and stopping a lot.
Bring snacks or cocoa for the kids (and yourself).
Go right at opening if you want a quieter visit.
Parking is easy but fills up on weekends - give yourself a few extra minutes.
And if you want to make it extra cute, throw the kids in their matching holiday tees or PJs. A little festive style never hurts.
The best part? It’s relaxing. No loud crowds, no giant lines, no rushing. Just a peaceful walk with your babies, watching their eyes light up at every turn. It’s the kind of outing that makes you slow down and actually enjoy the season.
If you're looking for a simple, joyful holiday activity right here in the Philly area, the Holiday Garden Railway at Morris Arboretum is absolutely worth the trip.
