Spring has officially arrived in Philly - and if you’re a local mama like me, you’re probably looking for new, fun ways to get the kids out of the house and into some fresh air (without breaking the bank). ☀️ Whether you’ve got toddlers, tweens, or teens, this list has something for everyone.
Here are our favorite springtime things to do in Philadelphia with kids - plus a free downloadable checklist to help you plan your family fun!
Located in Fairmount Park, this museum is perfect for younger kids. They can climb, build, play, and explore hands-on exhibits that spark imagination and curiosity. Bonus: It's indoors for those cooler spring days! Great for ages 1-7!
Big kids and curious minds will love the science experiments, tech exhibits, and planetarium. The brain exhibit and giant heart are always a hit! We enjoyed their new Body Worlds: Vital exhibit. Check out our visit here!
@phillymomlife we got to explore the body worlds: vital exhibit at the franklin institute. one of my kids enjoyed it - the other was creeped out after learning the displays are actual human bodies 🤪 this was a cool exhibit! its an additional $20 (regular admission required) and we spent almost two hours reading and learning about what’s underneath our skin! i loved how this exhibit continues to remind visitors to create the life they truly love and how happiness is vital to living a healthy life. Lots of interactive features and the pregnancy part was pretty cool too! I think my kids enjoyed that the most. Have you been? Dinosaur skeletons, live animal shows, and a butterfly garden? Yes please! This museum is a great mix of education and excitement.
Explore historic ships docked on the Delaware River and dive into the history of Philly’s waterfront. A must for mini adventurers and boat lovers.
Enjoy roller skating, food trucks, and family-friendly entertainment along the waterfront. A great spot for weekend fun or after-school adventures.
Mid to late spring is prime time for strawberry season! Head to nearby farms like Johnson’s Corner Farm or Linvilla Orchards for a sweet family day trip. Don't forget to bring a picnic!
Make a day of it at this nearby amusement park. With rides for all ages, a water park, and live shows, it’s worth the trip once the weather warms up.
Skate right in the heart of Philly! The rink offers rentals, themed nights, and lots of open space to roll around and enjoy the city vibes.
FDR Park: Cast a line and enjoy nature without leaving the city. No license needed on free fishing days!
Bartram’s Garden: They also offer free boating days — a hidden gem for families looking for outdoor adventure!
In addition to seeing the animals, you can stroll through beautiful plant sculptures and spring blooms. It’s like stepping into a magical garden!
Take a short drive to Glen Mills and enjoy Terrain’s Festival at Styer’s — a beautiful garden center with local vendors, food, and spring fun for families.
Looking for a chill evening activity? Sunset Social at Cira Green hosts free outdoor movie nights on select evenings - complete with skyline views, cozy blankets, and kid-friendly flicks. Bring the snacks or grab dinner from one of their food vendors. It’s a perfect way to wind down the day while still making memories. Check their website for the current schedule!
