Summer in Philly can be a lot of fun - splash pads, park days, and BBQs! But when temperatures rise, it’s important to stay safe in the heat, especially for our little ones, older adults, and anyone with health concerns.
The Philadelphia Department of Public Health is encouraging families to keep cool and watch for signs of heat-related illness as the weather heats up.
Babies and young children
Older adults
People with chronic health conditions
Pregnant women
Pets (yep, they feel the heat too!)
Drink lots of water – even if you’re not thirsty.
Avoid outdoor play during peak heat – try mornings or evenings instead.
Dress light – go for breathable, loose-fitting clothes.
Never leave kids or pets in a parked car – even for a minute.
Take advantage of Philly’s cooling centers, libraries, and spraygrounds when needed.
Public libraries (with AC and reading time!)
Cooling centers (open during heat emergencies)
Splash pads & spraygrounds
Community pools
Shopping centers or museums with AC
Heavy sweating
Headache
Dizziness or nausea
Cool, pale skin
If you notice these signs, get to a cool place, sip water, and rest immediately.
Comments will be approved before showing up.
