Exploring Philly with kids doesn’t have to break the bank. In fact, many of the city’s best museums offer free admission days each month, making it easy to plan fun (and educational!) outings without spending a dime. Whether your kids love art, history, or hands-on activities, here are some of the best free museum days in Philadelphia to check out:

The city’s most iconic art museum offers Pay What You Wish admission every first Sunday of the month and every Friday evening from 5:00–8:45 PM. It’s the perfect chance to introduce kids to world-famous art and enjoy family-friendly programs.

One of Philly’s most popular family attractions, The Franklin Institute occasionally offers Community Days with free admission, thanks to support from local sponsors. Keep an eye on their calendar for upcoming dates.

The University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology offers free admission on select days throughout the year, often tied to special cultural festivals or celebrations. It’s a great way to expose kids to ancient history in a hands-on way.

Located in South Philly’s FDR Park, this hidden gem offers free admission every second Sunday of the month. Families can explore exhibits on Swedish history and culture, then enjoy a walk or picnic in the park.

While not always free, the Please Touch Museum partners with organizations for special free days throughout the year. These are perfect for younger kids who love to learn through play. PTM also offers $2 admission every first Wednesday of the month.

The Academy occasionally hosts pay-what-you-wish evenings and free admission days during special events like Dinos After Dark.

The Barnes Foundation along with PECO offers free admission every first Sunday of the month.
