Join us on November 14th for a morning at FDR Park as Mackenzie Madison of Philadelphia hosts a Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day! This meet up is an opportunity for local Philly families—especially those who homeschool or use alternative schooling—to honor the legacy of Ruby Bridges and reflect on the importance of inclusion and bravery.

We'll start our morning with a brief discussion about Ruby Bridges, a true trailblazer in the Civil Rights Movement, who at just six years old, became the first Black student to integrate an all-white elementary school in the South. Her courage and determination serve as a powerful reminder of how one person can make a lasting impact. We'll talk about her story, her bravery, and how we, too, can stand up for what’s right in our own lives and communities. Learn more about Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day!
After our talk, we’ll walk together to the new Anna C. Verna Playground, celebrating Ruby’s journey and symbolizing the strides we've made—and still have to make—toward equality and justice. This walk is especially geared towards elementary and middle schoolers, making it a great opportunity to teach our kids about history and the importance of kindness and inclusion in a way they can connect with.
As a fun keepsake, we’ll also be giving away free Ruby Bridges-inspired stickers for all participants! We can’t wait to see you there for this inspiring event that brings our community together in honor of Ruby Bridges’ legacy. Let’s make this walk a memorable one for our Philly families!
